They learn that artists of various cultures have made contributions to our artistic heritage. Students are encouraged to make thoughtful use of the elements of design to enhance their personal stories.

As A 2nd Grade Artist, I Can...
- Drawing- Draw a scene using horizon line to create a foreground, middle ground and background. Differentiate between positive and negative space.
- Printmaking- Transfer an image in order to create a symmetrical design.
- Painting- Paint with a higher level of detail. Paint using expressive color.
- Construction/Mixed-Media- Make a small weaving with yarn. Use folding techniques to create paper sculptures.
- Ceramics- Attach multiple pieces of clay using slipping and scoring techniques. Create a free-standing clay sculpture.
- Concepts/Vocabulary- Connect Science units to art making. Use Positive/Negative Space in artwork. Integrate fundamentals of composition- overlapping, placement, and space into artwork. Discover the world of architecture and the environment.
