In 5th Grade, your young artist will focus on the artwork of twentieth century artists. Special attention is placed on the emotional qualities of color and line in artwork. They are asked to use their art media in an expressive manner.

as an artist.. I can use 1-point perspective to draw realistic geometric shapes that disappear to a vanishing point. I can also create a background of various tints of blue.
As A 5th Grade Artist, I Can...
- Drawing- Create a realistic 3D drawing using 1-point perspective. Practice value and shading to imply form.
- Printmaking- Incorporate a variety of printing techniques to create original works of art.
- Painting- Mix primary, secondary and intermediate colors. Use knowledge of color mixing to create paintings that express original ideas.
- Construction/Mixed-Media- Integrate knowledge of architecture and design to make building models. Combine media to create settings and backdrops for animation. Practice embroidery- whipstitch, backstitch, and chain stitch. Bind handmade books.
- Ceramics- Combine hand-building techniques such as slab-rolling, slipping/scoring and coils to create boxes, vessels and sculptures. Display a high level of attention to detail in finished ceramic pieces.
- Concepts/Vocabulary- Learn about careers in advertising and design. Refine craftsmanship. Use balance and repetition in artwork. Use contrast and juxtaposition to create interesting compositions. Apply math concepts to art making processes.
